Postal Act is being updated for creating a Smart Postal Department
The government is undertaking three projects to create a smart postal department. Even, the Postal Act which was amended in 2010, will be updated. At the same time legal action has been taken against e-post corruption.
On Wednesday, 14 February, the state minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak informed the matter after the meeting with Haznah Md. Hashim, the Malaysian Ambassador to Bangladesh.
Malaysia shows interest in cross-border e-commerce and smart post offices:
The state minister had a meeting with Haznah Md. Hashim, the Malaysian Ambassador to Bangladesh to create cross border e-commerce with Malaysia for the convenience of millions of Bangladeshi workers working in Malaysia.
The Malaysian ambassador expressed interest in increasing public and private investment in Malaysia's IT and telecom sector, including the transformation of the postal department into a smart postal department in the next 5 years.
Regarding the meeting, the state minister said that Malaysia has a lot of public and private investments in digital Bangladesh and digital service development based on information technology. There was a discussion about Malaysia to work as our development partner and knowledge partner and to keep continuing the partnership in the next 17 years as well in building Smart Bangladesh.
In the meeting, the State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak highlighted the existing relationship between the two brotherly countries of Bangladesh and Malaysia and said, 'Malaysia is a genuine friend of Bangladesh. As the culture and practices of Bangladesh and Malaysia are almost identical; Bangladeshi people feel very comfortable in Malaysia as a foreign workplace.
He outlined the progress in the telecommunication and information technology sector of Bangladesh in the last 15 years. The state minister mentioned that, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has been established as a very profitable place for investment. He expressed optimism that Malaysia will play a role in utilizing this opportunity of the government's investment-friendly policy.

Earlier, in the presence of the state minister, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Posts and the private bank Madhumati in the conference room of the Secretariat. Additional Director General of Postal Department SM Shahab Uddin and Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Madhumati Bank Limited. Safiul Azam signed the agreement.
